Default running 003 through Firewire 800

Would it be safe to run the my 003 through a bilingual Firewire cable into the Firewire 800 port on my MacBook Pro as opposed to using the cable it came with into the firewire 400 port?

I haven't heard of anyone trying this before. You may have to try it and report for the rest of us.

This will not work, or at least, not work well. I've been down that road too.

The FW 800 port on a MBP shares the FW card with the 400 port. That means you will have both a FW 800 and the 003 FW 400 running at the same time, same card. This is not a recommended config.

I purchased a SIG FW 400 Express Card and run my HD's from it and connect the 003 to the internal FW 400 port, all is working perfectly! You might be able to run with a SIG FW 800 express card and use your FW 800 HD, as it is a separate buss from the internal FW buss. I don't know if Digi has approved the 800 express card, but the 400 is approved and has been working perfectly for me.

Good Luck,
Michael

it will work fine. both the fw800 and fw400 are on the exact same fw bus. therefore, if there is a fw400 device plugged in to either port, BOTH ports operate at the 400 spec only.
