Exclamation Frequent crashes since latest update

Hi all.

Since updating to 10.2.0 I've been getting regular crashes within PT while playing audio, making work very difficult. Everything literally freezes requiring a reboot and I can't see any consistent errors in Event Manager. Is anyone else experiencing a similar issue? I'm on Windows 7 x64 and keep my system as clean and up-to-date as possible..

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Sorry EGS, didn't spot that. Here's the info..

The only devices I have attached are mouse, keyboard and my Focursite interface (Saffire Pro 26 I/O). My interface is connected to a Belkin firewire card with TI chipset using a 2m FW400 cable. I've had little niggles with PT since buying it a few months ago, but don't remember anything like this happening before I installed 10.2.0. The whole system freezes where it is and only happens when playing back audio (on a bad day it does it about every half an hour, today I've only had a few). No consistent errors are showing up in Event Manager and since it's not a BSOD I don't think Windows will give me any clues as to the cause..

Your system looks solid to me. The only thing that stands out is your wireless adapter. Do you keep it off when running pt??? What about antivirus programs???

I would recommend starting with deleting databases and prefs. In my signature is a link to my app called TRASHER that will automate these tasks. Delete all your dae/pt prefs and databases. Also, get the latest update for your video card

Delete these, restart your machine and let pt rebuild them. If that does not work, I would do a total uninstall and reinstall everything.

Also check what items are loading at startup for your printers or anything else.
Many printers load status monitors etc, not good thing for PT

Thumbs up Re: Frequent crashes since latest update

Thanks for the help everyone :)

@guitardom I wondered whether the wireless adapter was an issue too so have been removing it while running PT, doesn't help. Just downloaded the latest version of Thrasher so I'll give that a go.. fingers crossed!

@dave911/H-Musikk I use CCleaner to monitor my startup items. The only things that run are GoogleUpdate.exe (Chrome), KiesPDLR.exe (Samsung firmware update), avgtray.exe (AVG), iaanotif.exe (Intel Matrix Storage Manager) and jusched.exe (Java update). If Thrasher doesn't help I'll disable everything as detailed in the YouTube video..

Of those, I would not have any of them going but avg and turn it off when in pt. You can do chrome and java updates manually or just turn them on and restart every couple weeks to check. Matrix storage manager is not needed and could be an issue. Samsung firmware update I am guessing is for your monitor and totally unnecessary.

Question Re: Frequent crashes since latest update

The Samsung update is for my phone, I like to know when there are updates available, but as you say I can do that manually so will disable the update .exes and Intel Matrix Storage Manager, leaving just AVG. I'm not sure this will help though as I've always had these running at startup and only been having this problem since updating to 10.2.0.

I ran Thrasher and it seemed to help, I didn't freeze for a good half an hour, but it's not fixed the issue. Could it be to do with the session? My deadline for it is this evening and I'm almost done, so I'll be moving on to something new tomorrow and will see if it happens in other sessions..

Have been getting all kinds of other errors too like memory violations, low memory (the session was using about 3 of my 4GB), unable to complete exit command, even CPU errors despite it only running at 40-50%! I got this kind of thing occasionally before, but this session has been a nightmare!

Create a blank session, and then try "Import Session Data".
