Default A problem with midi editing in grid mode

Hello!

I'm making my midi-files with a software called Guitar Pro 5. Then I import the files into my Pro Tools session. Then I have a problem when I want to edit the midi notes.

I like to make some bluesy-music so I set the grid value to 1/8 triplet-notes so I can make a groovy feel. The problem is that even if i make the notes into triplets in Guitar Pro 5 they appear as normal 1/4 -and 1/8 notes in the pro tools-session. That's not a problem if i knew how to snap the notes to the 1/8 triplet-grid. When I try moving them they don't snap exactly to the triplet-grid, they still move as normal 1/8 notes so they always miss the grid-lines.

What I'm looking for is that if there's a way to somehow automatically (by pressing a button or something) snap the notes to the nearest grid-line or if there is like a mixture of the "slip" and "grid" mode where I could like drag the notes smoothly to the exact grid-lines.

Thank you

Junkk3

You can drag notes outside of the grid whilst holding down the Apple key when moving the note. Use the main counter set to bars and beats to see exactly where in the grid you are dropping them.

A:)

Is there a reason you don't make your midi files in Pro Tools? Have you tried setting the Pro Tools session GRID value to the same settings BEFORE you import the midi? Once PT has snapped the notes to any grid line, it won't move them to another line with a new setting, so maybe the trick will be to NOT let PT snap the notes at all. I really don't know, but maybe this will get you thinking in a new direction. Hope you get it sorted out. I just do all midi within PT, but having never used GP5, maybe I don't know what I'm missing

Im not really sure what the meter is. And I still can't get the midi-notes to act like triplets, they do just act like normal 1/4 and 1/8 notes even if the grid is set to 1/8 triplets, really annoying..

Oh yes!

I finally found the way to get the triplets into the grid.

event -> MIDI real-time properties -> quantize. And then I just selected 1/8 notes triplets and that's it.
