Default I need help!!

Hi People,

Ok, heres my situation. I have an iMac running Pro tools LE8 with a 003 Factory console. Its awesome, but stuck at my Dads house permantently. Im going to buy a new MacBook Pro 13 inch (the newest ones that came out yesterday) so that I can do some recording of my own.

What I'd like to know is a few things..

1. Can I install the Pro-tools LE8 software that came bundled with the 003 Factory ie does it have a licence limit of just one install which Ive used up on the iMac? Obviously Id like to know this to save me buying Pro-tools, again.

2. If I can install it on my new MacBook Pro, can I then use Pro-tools LE8 NOT with the 003 Factory console at my Dads, but instead with a smaller cheaper option like one of the M Box variants?

3. Finally, if I can install PT LE8 and use it with a smaller M Box device compared to the 003 Factory, what M Box devices are compatible, and which should I get if I just want something basic that has XLR, MIDI and a Line In, but isnt too expensive?

Thanks in advance for any help guys!

Phil

If you were to purchase a new mbox it would come w pt8 software, so that would serve you well for the laptop. Also you could show up at dad's and hook into the 003 if you ever wanted to do that. As for which mbox, I'd just say check out Sweetwater or something similar and find the one that will suit your needs, sounds like the mbox mini would work well, and new ones are supposed to be pretty nice.

If you can afford the upgrade to PT9 - you can use whichever audio interface you choose - by any manufacturer.

Thanks for the responses guys. Ok next question, if I was to buy the M Audio fast Track, as it seems to have what I need, and its comes with Pro Tools Essentials (link below)

http://www.dv247.com/computer-hardwa...t-track--68396

Can I then record sessions in PT Essentials and drag and drop them in to my Dads PT LE8 set up and carry on recording and mixing there? With all the correct time signatures and click tracks etc as well as the recorded tracks all working the same? I seriously hope the answer to this is yes otherwise this is really dumb lol

Thanks in anticipation...

Phil

I'm about 80 percent sure you can - realize you are not going to drag and drop, but open and covert the session to ptle 8. Keep in mind that once you bring that session on to your pop's machine, there it will stay. (I really don't believe you will be able to have the session be backwards compatible.)

I think you'd be better off buying a used mbox ii with the software included if cash is an issue. If you want to use both rigs, you'll quickly outgrow essentials and be dependent on the other rig again.

Again if you need just a single line and mic in, the new mbox mini would be nice...

Good luck
