Default Always having to force quit Pro Tools

Has anyone else been experiencing lately that they're always having to force quit Pro Tools on a Mac? I'm on 2022.12, with macOS 12.6.3 . M1Max MacBook Pro . I am having the exact same problem on an M1 MacBook Air.

It's usually fine if I've been working for under an hour or so. But after any extended period of having the application open, I'll need to force quit when I want to close pro tools.

It's a minor annoyance if anything, but I'm curious if anyone else is having the problem.

If lots of others were having the problem you'd likely be hearing about it. So just troubleshoot, trash prefs, and esp. move .aaxplugin files out of their folder and then test starting with a new empty session. Repeat all the test from a newly created admin account.

Always suspect plugins, and plugins get to potentially do stuff/write to the session file when Pro Tools tries to close.

The Pro Tools log files might give some clue... ~/Library/Logs/Avid/Pro_Tools*

Are you running under Rosetta or Apple Silicon Native. If nothing else finds a problem try switching that.

Just to be clear, this isn’t affecting work in any way while pro tools is open. This is just a tedious little thing that happens to me on a couple of otherwise stable systems. Was mostly curious if others have noticed this.

Actually, this is a known issue and it’s been problematic to isolate the issue.

It seems to happen after the system has gone into screen saver, monitor sleep, or system sleep and “woken up” from those states and then trying to quit Pro Tools.
Unfortunately I don’t have any workaround for you but just know that you’re not alone.

What systems are you seeing this on? I have seen plugins cause the need to force quit (but not recently/not on recent Pro Tools versions). I've not seen this at all recently on Pro Tools on Mac (mostly Intel Macs) and my monitor does sleep, the system will sleep at times as well since I'm booting around between development environments and forget they are not all optimized/set up not to sleep. Are you sure it's not a plugin or corrupt session (or corrupt template?). If not that then yes likely a PITA to find.

As far as I know it’s been on M1 Macs and for me is new to 2022.12.

Tested with and without plugins loaded on launch of Pro Tools and usually seems to happen after waking the system from screen saver or screen sleep when Pro Tools is still running with no session open.

I don't know if this is of any use; but I remember this clearly from many years back, with PT10 and maybe earlier, on Mac Pro 2008. For long periods of time. I guess it had to do with combinations of OS and PT versions. Everything working fine, but PT hangs on quit, and must be force-quit.

I made a big jump from PT10 to 2020 when I got rid of the cheesegrater, and have never seen it since. I'm still on 2020.12, though.

Yup - Mac Studio/Ventura/2022.12 (rosetta); PT crashing pretty reliably on quit, but otherwise stable. I have not tried to troubleshoot yet as all works fine otherwise, but will in the next few weeks. If I find anything out I'll post.
