Default RX 4 Spectral Repair

I'm working on a rig that is new to me running PT12.2.1 and RX4, and there's no one technical to ask here ... [sighs]

RX4 plugins are available in the AudioSuite drop down menu but Spectral Repair is not listed. Nor can I find it in the /Digidesign/Plug-ins/ folder.
I can access Spectral Repair via the standalone application and RX Connect, but for me that's a bit of a PITA.

Is Spectral Repair an option as a plugin, or only within the standalone app?

*******! I was afraid that might be the answer.
Presumably that's the same in RX5?

yup, only standalone…
buttt… not sure why using Connect
would be a PITA.
one clic and you're in RX4 full screen ready to repair,
then one clic you're back to PT,
then one clic to render.
faster than it took me to type this!
And with an aux track with Monitor enabled,
you're streaming thru your PT sesh…

Yes, Spectral Repair is only in the standalone version for RX5 and as elicious mentioned, the RX Connect AudioSuite plugin makes it super easy to go between Pro Tools and the standalone app.

I was a little skeptical at first but now I use it all the time without evening thinking about it.

I'm clearly doing something wrong then. (Laughs!!!!)

4 clicks to get a clip into Spectral Repair, compared to two as I'm used to. (And that doesn't include having to create a separate aux track AND insert a plugin in just to audition the result).
Then another two clicks to write it back into PT, compared to one.
And if I load a second clip into RX, I'm then having to tell it I don't want to save the previous clip. Though I guess that may be in Prefs somewhere.

I've had a look at a couple of YouTube tutorials, and read part of the manual (or FAQ on Izotope's site, I forget which) but it all seems counterintuative compared to the 15+yr old way of using AudioSuite plugins.

Clearly I'm doing something wrong ... or getting too old.

Once RX Connect was developed for RX4, iZotope dropped the plug-in version of Spectral Repair because it was clunky to use,. For example you had to audition from the top of the clip even if the bit you were working on was near the end. They just couldn't harness the full power of Spectral Repair inside the AudioSuite framework. Once you get to grips with it it is very easy to use the RX Connect system to get audio from Pro Tools into the standalone version of RX, work on the audio, maybe using multiple processes and then ship it back into Pro Tools. If you want to know know more about how to use RX4 and RX5 - check out my tutorial series on Groove 3. RX5 Explained will be coming out very soon.

Thanks Mike.
It turns out my workflow was exactly that. I can see advantages to working in RX outside PT in certain circumstances, but to me it's an incredibly clunky way of working. More options, yes, but more mouse clicks, more windows, more time, less efficient workflow. Hey ho.
