Pan law discrepancy between TDM and LE
Hello,
I have always thought that the pan law of Pro Tools was -2.5dB, but I have noticed today in a TDM system that it has been changed to -3dB. So I thought it has been changed in Pro Tools 7, but I have been surprised when I have checked it in a LE system with Pro Tools 7 and it keeps on being -2.5dB. Does anyone know why it has been changed only in the TDM system?. Cheers, Daniel. |

Re: Pan law discrepancy between TDM and LE
The stereo panner (2 channels) is 2.5, the surround panner (3 or more channels) is 3.0. Even if you are using the surround mixer engine and assign a track to output to only two channels (or a send to two busses), the traditional stereo panner is used and has a 2.5 pan law.
Hope this helps.

Re: Pan law discrepancy between TDM and LE
I have done some tests and I have found why I had this question when I posted.
If in the plug-ins folder are the surround and stereo mixer plug-ins the pan law is as Richard say, -3 for more than 2 outputs and -2.5 for stereo. But if in the plug-ins folder is only the surround mixer then the pan law is -3 for surround and stereo, and if only the stereo mixer is used the pan law is -2.5. Regards, Daniel |
