So, is ProTools LE 6.9.2 compatible with Mac OS 10.4.2? Is it safe?

Thanks!
Ray

10.4.2 is not fully tested yet - watch the compato docs or here on the DUC for an update...

Default Re: Pro Tools LE 6.9.2 Update for Mac OS X Tiger

I am having two problems:

1.

I have a setup with Pro Tools LE 6.9, Mac OSX 10.3.5 and Digi 002 Rack on a Dual 1.8ghz G5 with 2GB DDR memory and 80gb SATA hard disk.

A. When I go into File - Open Session - And just browse a little bit Pro Tools crashes with the error: The Application Pro Tools LE has unexpectedly quit. The system and other applications have not been affected! Would you like to submit a bug report to Apple?

B. Most of the time when I am bouncing an audio file it crashes

C. Often when importing Audio to Track Pro Tools crashes same as in "A."

D. Using Reason in Rewire mode causes Pro Tools to stop and give errors and mostly = Error -6086 Operating System Held Off Interrupts for Too Long (i have tried all possible cpu limit, hardware buffer size and other recommended settings)

I have changed hard disk drives and partitions and settings. I have changed the memory and all cables (mac and digi 002 rack cables). I have tried all software settings that I have read about. I have also tried different versions of Pro Tools LE and MacOSX.

2.

I have a setup with Pro Tools LE 6.9.2 and MBox on a PowerBook G4 1.67ghz, 521mb DDR, 100gb hdd.
Running Mac OSX 10.4.1 (or 10.4.0, i dont have the notebook at this very minute)

A. Running Reason with Pro Tools in ReWire mode is very slow and laggy and causes Pro Tools to stop playback with random error messages and most frequently the Error -6086 Operating System Held Off Interrupts for Too Long.

note: more and more people are starting to use Reason with Pro Tools but I believe there will never be any noticable increase in such users if they are not going to be more compatible
--

Any ideas on how to fix the problems in either scenarios are greatly appreciated!

Best regards,
Halldor Hrafn Jonsson

What version of Reason are you using? If it is version three make sure you are running Reason 3.0.3 as this has fixed alot of bugs including where it used far more CPU than normal, this is why you where getting these buffer errors. I have updated to this 3.0.3 version and it is now running sweet.

Well I updated and launch and get InitMachEtherlPCShim failed Error:-1501

then it tells me the hardware is in use by another program

I restart and just launch core audio and get told the hardware is in use by another application.

not a good sign.

...

Me too !!!!! exactly the same ... It seems to be an Avid thing . I uninstalled Avid Xpress Pro 4.6, and Re-installed Pro-tools 6.9.2 and Pro Tools worked, re-installed Avid, and got the same error again ... Kind of Ironic that the one piece of software causing conflict is made by their mother company! Any suggestions/solutions would be greatly appreciated, already tried deleting preferences and repairing drive permissions, definately seems to be an Avid conflict. Thanks!

Yes I have AVID 4.6 on my system but I no longer use it. Can not recall if it was installed before or after 6.9.2

Just upgraded to Tiger 10.4.2 and LE 6.9.2 and everything runs better than expected. Minor issues have only been a slight beeping out of my G5 but ran some system tests and managed to get it to disappear. I get more CPU advantage now than with Panther (Waves plugins are as bad as they report), probably 5%-10% more, and my system boots in under 10secs (dual 1.8 / 2.256RAM) which is great. ProTools runs smoother than ever and I no longer get any error messages (my bounce to disk issues are completely resolved). Reason 3.0.3 fixes many issues and uses less CPU so rewiring to ProTools is possible without suffering at all. It is worth upgrading. The Quicktime issues are fixed for me at least so now i can work with movies again.
