PT9 drivers and backwards compatibility question..
Hi all.
I would like to know if the PT9 new drivers for 003 rack would work with PT8 if anybody has any idea. ...and another question: Is PT9 backwards compatible? Can a PT9 session be opened in PT8? TIA! |

Re: PT9 drivers and backwards compatibility question..
The first part of your question makes no sense to me. As for opening a PT9 session in PT8, yes it works, but you get a message about some functions being disabled or unavailable, like the ADC feature that PT8 doesn't have. For those upgrading, I always have the same recommendation. DON'T MESS WITH YOUR ONLY SYSTEM DRIVE! Seriously, either save a drive image, or clone to a new drive so you can revert to a known working setup, in case you have problems(which happens more often that we'd like). I have system drives with XP/PT8.0.1, Win7x64 with PT8.0.4 and 3RD drive with Win7x64 and PT9

Re: PT9 drivers and backwards compatibility question..
Thanks Albee
Well.. I was thinking about installing the new drivers made for PT9 and still use PT8 as I have some issues with the PT8 ASIO drivers in cubase, hoping they've fixed my issues in the new drivers. Backwards compatibility is good news though. |

Re: PT9 drivers and backwards compatibility question..
The drivers and software are now totally separate. The "latest drivers" are required to run PT9, but they are still the "latest drivers" for the hardware.
The only way you are going to find out if they solve your particular problem is to try them. Also, I would highly recommend making a backup of your current system before any updates so that you can get back to a working system very quickly if something goes wrong.

Re: PT9 drivers and backwards compatibility question..
Right!
I have a recent backup so no worries there. I've already used it a few times as my PT8 was BSOD-ing at the loading screen. what can I say? it's Pto Tools. Would it be possible to have both versions installed? (on separate locations of course). |
