Default Structure VS Xpand

I already use Xpand.

Is Structure much better sonically than Xpand?

If so, is it better enough to make it worth going through the hassle of downloading it and the clutter of having the 2 of them on one system?

They are entirely different. Structure is a sample player and Xpand is a softsynth. Check out their manuals.

You can always try the free version and see for yourself.

As the previous poster said, they are for two entirely different purposes. I don't see a reason not to get the free version of Structure though since it supplies you with new sounds that you can use.

Well techically, Xpand is a 'sample player' too.

Difference being, one can't add to Xpand's 'sample' set.

I showed a friend structure free today and while he really liked it, he also commented on the fact that it basically looked like expand, I like the fact that I can access my kontact files but I am stuck trying to figure out if the structure le is worth it. I guess 150 isn't bad for 3gb of sounds. what does le offer me over the free version besides the option to apply effects to the non structure files? I am debating on getting structure le or a mixer sometime this month.

Hi rkaynan

Is Structure sonically better than Xpand!?

What an interesting question and probably rather difficult to answer. Given that there are basic similarities, i.e., both are Sample Playback Modules and both possess Synthesis Architecture, though, whether this architecture has sonic bearing is a question I'm not qualified to answer, so, this leaves us with the quality of the samples themselves. Well, AIR (Digidesign) recorded both Xpand! and the Structure content, with the added exceptions of EastWest libraries. Then you have EastWest Structure Edition libraries and let us not forget supported 'Third Party Libraries'. So, is Structure sonically better than Xpand!, hmmm... well, I don't know, but what I can say is, as an end user, it's the functionality of these Virtual Instruments that differentiate themselves.

So, perhaps, the question should be, what does Structure offer that I need? Quality Samples

What sort of samples am I after? Does Xpand! meet my needs?

What else am I going to use Structure for? What Structure family member best meets those needs then?

These are questions only you can answer my friend.

Good luck.
