Interesting thread I Have actually downloaded Turbo Boost Switcher But have not actually used it (yet). On my mid 2020 iMac with 10th gen. i7 chip ,,,,so far have not noticed increased fan noise while recording or mixing PT. I do however definitely hear it when rendering in Final Cut Pro but then it is not really an issue.

When I turn off Turbo Bost on the mac in my signature I get a drop in Geekbench single-core benchmark score of around 25%, which is quite a lot. But I can't say I notice it in browsing and general chores. It's nice though, that it prevents the fan from throttelling when f.ex a backup is going on in the background.

So…if you leave the Intel Turbo Boost option unchecked in PT prefs, that should allow Turbo Boost Switcher to do its work based on how I set it (on or off), right?

I have the paid version of TBS, and I’d prefer not to have PT conflicting with it or overriding its settings.

That's a good question; I'd like to know the answer too. Since the default state in macOS is for Turbo Boost to be on at all times, it would make sense to me to leave Turbo Boost checked in Pro Tools, and let TBS handle turning it on and off. The question is whether Pro Tools will override TBS when Pro Tools is launched.

This is very confusing!
Can someone please help me here?

I didn't know turbo boost existed until the previous PT update when my fan started coming on much sooner than normal.

I was delighted to see this update however, when I switch turbo boost off, I get no fan at all now, my Mac is super hot.
I know the fan would have usually come on in certain heavy sessions, it doesn't come on at all now.
Anyone else experiencing this? I assume this isn't good for the computer long term?

What is the "normal" or shipped state of OSX? Turbo on or off?

I'm on a maxed 2018 Man Mini, (3.2G i7) OSX 14.6 and PT 2021.6.0

Thanks,
D

Thanks.
I have very strange fan behaviour since this PT update.
Living turbo boost on has my fan on when doing simple tasks, watching youtube etc.
This didn't happen prior to the update.
Do you find this?
