002r making digital noise while playing audio tracks?

Hi all,

I recently moved back to a desktop PC (i7, 8GB, SSD, Windows 10, Cubase 8.5), So with firewire available I decided to bring my 002r back to life.

Playback outside of Cubase (Music players, Youtube and even standalone VSTs) is completely OK.

The problem starts when I hit play on one or more Audio tracks in Cubase (Here, too, VST instruments sound fine). Audio sounds stutter-y, something between a too-low buffer size, a problem with sample rate and a bit-crusher distortion. Here's a link to a video so you'll get what it sounds like:

Tried to mess around with drivers for both the 002r and my firewire card (The SIIG one that is recommended on the Avid website).

I will be thankful for every idea you guys got.

Hmmm, not so sure the old beast is worth the time, but one thing to try; set Windows to NOT use the 002 as its default playback device(this is mandatory with Pro Tools as Windows locks out some access, like for changing sample rate)
