AFAIK, Avid has never qualified the AMD CPUs.

But, there are so many people who have had issues with the I7s and, for that matter, even the Mac Pro systems, that, if the performance potential is there, saving several thousand in coin is worth a go.

I started a thread related to the Opteron CPUs under the PT10 under Windows area of the forum. I will be testing a dual, quad-core Opteron soon, but so far have only tested a pair of the 2.2 single core Opterons, and a pair of the 2.6 dual core Opterons. Neither of those have had any issues with PT10.0.1 -- but I have yet to fully test them to the extent that many others on here have found loose ends and quirks.

I visited the ASUS site to check out the specs on your K8N DL mobo. It is designed for Socket 940 Opterons, and indicates the dual-core Opterons are supported. One of the Tyan motherboards I have been testing used a Socket 940, but the mobo that supports the quad-core Shanghai CPU requires the Socket F, also known as a Socket 1207. I do not think your Asus mobo can support the quad core CPUs. Not only is the CPU socket an older version, it uses a slower memory than the newer motherboards. It also looks as though the most recent BIOS (for the K8N DL) is from 2007.

Also, do you have updated Windows 7 drivers for your K8N DL? I did not see any on the ASUS web site.
