Re: PTF with P4
It will work, long as you run 98se (or WinME I guess).
I am running PT FREE on: Shuttle SS50 P4 1.6Ghz w/512 Mb RAM. Adaptec 2940UW SCSI card 2 x 4.5GB 7200 RPM SCSI Drives. DMAN PCI SoundCard MidiSport 2x2 (I will be moving up to 1Gb RAM, Adaptec 29160 & 2 x 10K RPM SCSI drives soon). 98se kinda dulls down having a P4 & all the RAM. 2K would work much better I think. PT Free works OK with my system. I am only planning on using it to record MIDI tracks & mixing Stereo tracks & to import small PT Session (assuming that works...). BTW: PTFree is not impressive to me. |

Re: PTF with P4
PTF will not work on Win2k. You must use 9x or Me...
I thought PTF was awful. As they say, YMMV! |

Re: PTF with P4
So far my mileage hasn't been that great.
It's clunky, lacks features, runs sluggish & worst of all it only works on 98. I just started using it, I know my hardware isn't the problem. I sure the hell won't be buying a Digi or Mbox unless they eventually let it work on 2000. Only reason I run PT Free right now is to import small projects from a partner studio. |

Re: PTF with P4
The newest version: protoolsLE 5.3.1 ONLY runs on winXP. You cannot really compare ptfree with ptle...Although they look the same, the underlying "engine" is completely different. The cheapest way to get ptle 5.3.1 would be to find a second hand amiii/toolbox card. It still is supported with the newest update....
And now...lets all wait to see the m-box for windows...
