Default SSC - multiple outputs via SC2+?

Can the "outputs" of SSC be routed to the hardware outputs of a SC2+ card? I'd like to use SSC as a bigger 'RAM tank' for an existing SC2 card. Phone support said this is possible, but I'd like to see it in writing before I buy. Would this work stand-alone, without ProTools running?

Thanks,
Irl Sanders

Hi Irl,
I am not 100 percent sure but I think that does not work. I have both SCII card and SSC on a Macintosh TDM system. If I start to load a sound the software asks me whether I want to use it on SC II card or SSC. In a tdm-setup there is no link between both.
But I think you use it without TDM as you want to have more outputs for SSC. In tdm it has 32 outputs to the tdm bus, that's a lot...
I don't think you can use a SC II card as a Direct I/O device.
But as I mentioned before, no guarantee on this...

Regards
Mark

Thanks Mark - that's as I suspected, but two different pre-sales guys at Digi told me otherwise. Moral of the story...never trust a saleman!

Mark is correct.

Samples loaded in Soft SampleCell cannot be played out through a SampleCell card.

Soft SampleCell can use Sound Manager (2 outputs via Mac), Direct I/O (up to 16 outputs via digi hardware), or DirectConnect (32 outputs via PT software).

VIA DIGI HARDWARE is the confusing phrase in the sale literature, as an SC2 card is indeeed Digi Hardware, is it not? Perhaps a Pro Tools audio interface should be specified. Also, someone should straighten out the guys in pre-sales, as they blew this question TWICE.

Maybe they meant that you can load *SampleCell* (no Soft) samples onto the card and use its eight outputs.

Oh, and there's a TDM daughtercard for the SampleCell card that routes its outputs into the TDM mixer. No DirectConnect needed - the cards are connected with a ribbon cable.

With a SampleCell II PCI or Plus card installed, the Soft SampleCell Editor gives you the choice of loading samples into the Mac's RAM or the SCII's RAM. Maybe that's what they were referring to.

I'll send a note to the sales crew when we are back in the office on Monday to clarify this.
