Yes, they are v popular, clients love them. (1031's) I use a 1094 (big one!) sub with them. Good for rock music. 1032's are less common, I don't know them.

I love my 1031's but it's nice to have a set of NS10's to bring you back to earth and make you work for those mixes. It took a little while to get used to the "hyped" sound of them which is I suppose why clients do love them.

I've found the 1031s to be a bight light on the bottom, I think the sub is a good idea. Maybe because the ultra low is attenuated it allows them to better in the low-mids, and this is where these things really rock. Also great cross-over... very smooth, clear, and stable.

June-
I love my 1031's as a near field monitor--great imaging. I agree that they are light on the bottom. Anything larger though, wouldn't fit in our furniture.

Im in a radio production studio--my monitoring needs my be different than yours.

It does depend on your monitoring needs. The 1031s are in many studios, but I'm not into mixing with them. They are a little too hyped, colored in the low mids, and overpriced compared to excellent competitors like the Mackie HR824. I have never listened to 1032s in a meaningful control room context, only at tradeshows in the Genelec room. As Jules said, they're less common.

At the end of the day, it's a question of what sound you are personally comfortable with listening to and trusting over the long term. That's a personal decision that you can make only by trying various monitors out for yourself, not in dealers' showrooms, only in your favorite control room or working space. Good luck.

I use the 1032's with a 1092 sub.

The best Genelec combination for a smaller control room IMHO. (6x7 meters)

The response in the lower mids is much better than on a 1031 & 1092 configuration....and the sound level feels twice as loud. (Not been able to reach the clipping point yet)

This is not a nearfield setup....more like 2 meters away from you.

I read in a magazine (think it was Studio Sound) that Dave Reitzas carries a setup just like mine with him.
I used to carry the 1031's with me in the early 90'ies....but then they became as common as the NS10's .

Make sure you get the 1092 sub!

I've got 1032's and I love them. I'm not using a sub with them, perhaps I should.

Jules: I don't know if there is any difference in sound, but Genelec recommended the 1092 for the 1032's .

I guess you just have more power than you need for 1031's at least....unless you really love bass
