The support plan was a limited time deal, so most people ended up paying $999 for the upgrade if they did it after the cutoff date(december 2011 if I remember right).
Yeh! against better judgement. Don't get me wrong the features in Pro Tools 10HD are great but the features I really wanted is in Pro Tools 11HD but thats all water under the bridge now. Just kicking myself with regret.

My request, for what it's worth, would be for those of us who intended to buy the upgrade from DVTK 2 to CPTK 2 but never got around it/couldn't afford it...not a pricing request, but rather a request for the ability to still purchase the software-only version of PT11 HD. I just did some horse-trading to acquire a moderately used 003 console, and really don't want to buy any more hardware. Now, if someone wanted to sell their CPTK......

Seems like a good thing that Avid actually dropped the price on the CPTK upgrade. I wonder if this is the first thread with proposed coding subroutines!

The choice to not allow HD software to be purchased in the future without HD hardware is unfortunate and obviously forced since it is true that we know the software can run without the hardware. I'm not fully convinced that this is driven by corporate greed, however. It could be a way to keep the sales of Avid hardware up and therefore help subsidize the costs associated with sustaining that department.

I for one love the new Avid convertors. After several attempts at getting a good sound with other "high-end" gear, in my book the Avid sound is top notch. It is however less probable that someone would buy their convertors and not use the software than the other way around so it would make sense that the hardware group would want a subsidy.

That's my 2 cents.

Thanks for reading!

Carl

Tony, are full, non-expiring NFR licenses upgradable? (this question applies to NFR CPTK as well as NFR PT9+9HD and PT10+10HD) Thanks so much for the answer!

Yes, but those users were stuck with PT9 all this time, while all active upgraders enjoyed and continue to enjoy PT10 while PT11 is released.

Dear Bruce
I'm sorry but your reply doesn't really seem to clearl answer the entire question that was being asked - i.e the linked document states "All Pro Tools|HD systems require the presence of at least one Pro Tools|HD audio interface"- so while it goes on to say HD will work with a 003, does that mean if one upgrades with CPTK and a 003 to PT HD 11 it will require the purchase of additional hardware to make the 003 work as an interface while the software has HD functionality or not ?

Its perfectly clear

Using a 003 is not an HD SYSTEM... It is a NATIVE SYSTEM using HD SOFTWARE... HD SYSTEM is the key word here

No HD hardware is needed to run the HD SOFTWARE on a non HD SYSTEM

I am a current CPTK / PT10 owner and use internal mac laptop outputs sometimes and Fastrack ULTRA if I'm home...
Is this now supported still when I move to PT11HD or not?
