Default Top reasons to NOT upgrade to OSX

I realize answers will vary depending on individual needs, but I'd like to get some feedback about what you think are the top issues that still need to be addressed to get back-level TDM users like myself to finally bite the OSX bullet? In other words, what are the biggest reasons to NOT upgrade to OSX for PT?

Is it:

1. 3rd party software related (ie soft sampler)?
2. Stability?
3. ADC?
4. SCSI support?
5. Plug-in development?
6. Other?

I have found no reason for not upgrading to OS X. I have been using ProTools since version 1.1 and this is by far the most stable and reliable system thus far. Mac 1.25 DP 800 FW, 1526mb RAM, Panther 10.3.2, ProTools 6.2.3, HD3 Accel, 24 fader ProControl, EditPak, (4) 192 interfaces and too many plugins to list.

Hope this helps!

I second that.
I love OSX & PT 6.2. Still learning some of the new features.
I was "forced" to go there because of my upgrade to Accel but very happy with it.
So far very stable.
OS 10.2.8
PB G4Ti 400 (I still can't believe it)/ Magma CB4
HD2 Accel + 192 w/ expansion I/O

If you use softsamplers and want more than one stereo output you're SOL. The RTAS implementation is very limited when, in fact, it works at all. Some samplers work and some don't. You can check numerous threads on the topic. I still have two systems going. One in OS 9 and one in OS X (PANTHER). As far as non softsampler things in OS X go, they seem to be fine so far.

There is no capability for Hot-Swapping a SCSI Drive. Reboot is the only way to mount a drive that was not mounted at startup.

I have been told there may never be this capability, as it is a Unix limitation.

Dan, that sounds great! What rate are most of your sessions at 44 or 96? Are you getting as many tracks as you had in 9.2 or Jaguar? I have an hd system in 9.2 with a quicksilver 733 and the 002 rack on my PB laptop867on jaguar so I've been thinking about this for a while. I actually tried to upgrade last summer but I gave up, 6.1 is never is stock! thanks

I've been using OSX for some time now, and going back to OS9 would be unthinkable. Everything is simply more stable and runs better for me.

I also can't imagine ever using SCSI again. From here on out, it's FW or (S)ATA.

Using OS9 because of SampleCell seems like a bad idea to me, unless you're planning on retiring soon. This is a dead format.

Since Digidesign doesn't seem to have any desire to build a sampler into PT (like EXS24 in Logic), if a person needs serious sampling capability to use with PT, the solution is to get a second machine or two to run Kontakt, GS, etc.

The only thing that I dislike about OS X is it takes FOREVER to search for files. I do a lot of sound design and have my libraries on a network. OS 9 took seconds to search OS X takes minutes. Very frustrating when in a rush. Networking in general with OS X sucks.

Don't do a lot of that myself, but could this be an issue of journaling not enabled?

I believe the bundled software (Reason specifically) is mostly given as a teaser.
I'm sure the full version (I havn't gone for it yet) makes full use of I believe 32 outs.
