Default phantom power?

i have the Mbox.
it has phantom power. it's either ON or OFF
for both xlr inputs. is it ok to turn phantom power ON
and have one condenser mic (which needs phantom power) and
one Sure SM 57 which doesn't need phantom power.
will it hurt that mic that dosen't need phantom power?

Phantom power won't hurt dynamic mic's like the 57.
Plug away.

Definitely a ribbon mic. Some of the new Royer mics use phantom power though.

Also be careful not to use phantom power on a condensor mic that has its own power source (battery / power supply).

and always mute you speakers or the input when patching a mic into an xlr with phantom power on. It can pop loud enough to fry tweeters. Phantom is dangerous for many ribbons but should not hurt anything else (but don't take a chance on those battery-powered condensers without consulting the microphone owner's manual). Most dynamic mics have a small transformer inside that will not pass DC.
