Default The transition to 64 bit AAX - U Mad Bro?

So yesterday I sat down and took a good look to see how "ready" I was to make the jump to Pro Tools 11.

You know what I realized?

Not a single one of the plugins I use most frequently is AAX!

Yup. Not even a 32 bit AAX.

My Duende Suite, Play, Melodyne, BFD2, Ozone 4, and all of my Slate plugins... none are yet AAX, and some may never be.

I'm going to have to buy Ozone 5, and I will have to buy the next upgrade of Melodyne. I haven't heard a single word yet from SSL as to whether or not there will be an AAX release of Duende.

Am I angry?

Nope.

"WHY DISM? WHY AREN'T YOU RAGING ABOUT A LACK OF RTAS SUPPORT IN PT11?"

Because there is a price for progress.

Sometimes you gotta let things go, and sometimes you have to invest in the future. I'm going to have to pay for some plugin updates, I'm going to have to buy another iLok 2, and I may even have to invest in a new mixing suite... and I couldn't be happier.

I want a 64 bit Pro Tools with a new plugin format that doesn't drop CPU errors and can bounce in non-realtime. If I need to buy a few new plugins to do it, so be it. I'd rather see Pro Tools be able to use my 16GB of RAM than continue to support companies that won't support their own progress.

Is anyone else in my situation who is still excited for 64 bit AAX?

I also like to use BBE Sonic Maximizer (used to use the hardware version 20 years ago), and I wonder if that will get ported over.

But like you, I'm not panicking. I have a lot of useful stuff, Avid's is already there, McDSP is already there, and I certainly won't be lacking for DSP to use.

I really do hope Waves AAX comes quickly, though… (At least in time for the PT11 launch.)

Yeah, I've been in constant contact with SSL over AAX since PT10 launched, and their responses have been continually getting quieter. Makes me a bit sad...

But realistically, there's nothing I was doing with Duende that I couldn't get away with in ChannelStrip or some other suite. It's all 1s and 0s in the end, and the plugs certainly don't make the mix.

I was a little taken back as I JUST purchased VE Pro 5 and thought "great now we have 64 bit Pro Tools and I won't need VE Pro..." But it seems this was the BEST thing I could have done. I can still use ALL my plugins and VI's while waiting on AAX versions

I am very excited for Pro Tools 11!

It's too bad about Duende native because I prefer their versions of their own boards than what Waves did.

I would definitely purchase an AAX update from them.

Think of it, those VST vi that aren't aax, well you'll still be able to use them through VEP in Pro tools So still not a waste.
