I paid less then 7 grand for my Oasys - not sure where you got that figure. :dunno:

It may be a good idea NOT to upgrade close to major industry conventions like NAMM and NAB.

I get your point, but... that's not the point here. I'm talking about customers who literally JUST bought 10 only to find 11 is basically here. Once I download the thing I can wait 6 months before installing it if I want, and by then, various bugs will have been worked out.

It will cost $39 to buy a PT support code just to send
a letter begging for a reasonable outcome here.

According to:

http://shop.avid.com/store/cms.do;js...undsAndReturns

I might be able to get a refund for my upgrade if I trash it,
in which case I could buy it again and then be eligible for the free
upgrade to 11...

Clutching at straws?

Is there any way to contact Avid without it costing so much?

Pre-sales calls might not get charged for.

Um - if you bought it 9 days ago can't you just return it? And then wait until end of May to buy version 11?

upgrade to 11... I have to speak to someone at Avid first. That probably means a late night overseas call - I'm in Australia.

You have waited a year and a half after 10 is released to update to it. Now your worried you won't be on the cutting edge?? They have to set a date. Even if they set it for jan 1, you would have people who received it for Christmas saying they only received it 5 days earlier so can't they just give a few more days of leeway. Wait another year or so till the next paid update, then upgrade again.

Not sure what your implying by "trash it" but it sounds like the potential to really stick it to yourself...

I'm fairly sure that you can use Skype to make free 1-800 calls from anywhere.

Default Avid this is how you do business...

This is why I am pretty upset with Avid right now on the upcoming Pro Tools 11 upgrade pricing.

This is how it's always been with Cakewalk as far as I can remember, well since 1996:

"Starting August 1 through December 31st, when you purchase SONAR X1, you will get SONAR X2 for free once it becomes available."

At least Cakewalk gives people the doubt of a 5 month window for free upgrade. Avid only gives a 1 month window. Yea I am pretty darn upset that I just purchased Pro Tools 10 for $699 just 2 months ago and will have to pay an extra $299 just for 64bit PT11 that I know for a fact will be buggy as hell.
