6101 errors even when error suppression is active

This never used to happen in previous versions of pro tools. I used to be able to click "ignore errors during playback / record" in my playback engine and this would suppress 6101 errors. I now still get them on occasion with this setting enabled.

Is this a bug, or am I not understanding the function of this option correctly? My understanding is that 6101's are core audio under-run errors and would be ignored when this is enabled.

"ignore errors" is never guaranteed to ignore all errors, it would be a disaster if it did. It ignores some errors for some range of latency.

And ignore errors often causes more problems than it's worth, with clicks and pops, or more recently outright latency bugs.

Try to find/solve the problem. Especially seeing if you can find plugin issues.

Why don't you focus on trying to solve the underlying cause of this problem? Have you done any of the standard troubleshooting stuff?

I have already told you that not all errors can be "ignored". They cannot, this is not how this stuff works internally. Now what? You want somebody from Avid to tell you the same?

Or imagine I am wrong, and you are looking for somebody from Avid to tell you you are right and this is a new behavior and then what? ... that maybe Avid might fix that in some future release? In how many years time? And what would they tell you to do in the interim? oh right .... try to find the underlying cause of the problem.

There is nothing unusual going on here, you have a 6101 error and you need to try to find out why. You got lucky in the past with ignore errors, but you should in general not be relying on ignore errors, it can introduce clicks and pops and input latency errors. And should not be needed on well running/optimized systems. Try to find the problem (plugins as always a suspect, but with 6101 also look at overall optimization, interface driver, etc.). All you are doing here is wasting time.

And the likely reason you see this problem during recordings (and likely live input monitoring) is
that is when Pro Tools is using the low-latency domain HW buffer, otherwise it is using the large disk playback buffer. If you max out the HW buffer size the issue likely goes away since then Pro Tools is close to the state of when it is only using the large disk IO buffers. It is worth confirming that expected behavior? And after that you should set the HW buffer to a small size where 6101 errors frequently occur and in that state go looking for suspect causes, otherwise it takes forever to make progress. Always troubleshoot with ignore errors not checked.

So yes, my system is very highly optimized. All drivers up to date and all the usual troubleshooting has been done.

I understand the drawbacks and benefits of relying on this feature. I'd just like it to work the way it used to.
