Default CAF-files no longer supported in 2021.12?

I used to be able to drag CAF-files from the Workspace-browser or straight from the Finder onto tracks, but even 'Import' doesn't work anymore (I recently moved up to Catalina).
Have I missed something and is CAF no longer supported or is this an isolated incident on my machine?

Could you open a CAF file in Catalina using previous versions of Pro Tools?

CAF is pretty old, originally based on quicktime 7 codecs. Catalina was Apple's first operating system to limit support to 64 bit applications and components. A lot of older formats won't work due to their dependency on legacy 32-bit components. Perhaps CAF is one of them? Or perhaps one with similar complications to DNxHD, where there are versions encoded with 32bit or 64bit components. Catalina for various formats has been a right headache.

No, indeed it must have to do with Catalina, since I never had problems on Mojave. It does however play with QuickTime 10 and e.g. Snapper, but I guess Avid decided to drop support... Oh well... I feel like an old fart now

Import with Audacity and export to WAVs for PT? I guess.

Or with Snapper, BarbaBatch, whatever. That's not the problem. Down right stupid for a 'industry standard' not to even recognize it in Import.
Having problems with MP3's in the Workspace as well, as others have mentioned: pitch drift, starting from the start, f**ed up waveforms... Darn shame.
But ok: I know the Workspace browser was bought from another company as far as I know... Big time to update this.

Have you filed a support ticket with Avid? It would be interesting to see what they say. It may well be a format headed deeper into the ether. For the most part, Apple ditched any notion of CAF being an industry standard format when they abandoned QuickTime for windows back in 2016.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't CAF the format for many or the majority of samples used currently in the Logic Pro X library? Nevertheless it would be great if they would just drag/import into PT.

Peace To All

Indeed: the loops and SFX that come with Logic and FCP are (or at least were) in CAF.
Will ask Avid with a ticket, so we can know for sure!

Got a response back form tech Support saying the bug with MP3's is logged and ready to be fixed. The support for CAF (under Catalina that is) needs to be checked further.

Just confirmed:

I just confirmed with my team that CAFs are never supported with Pro Tools. Lucky for you that you made it work with Mojave because it shouldn't even work at all. Sorry about the news but we cannot assist you with CAF since we never supported it.
