In order to achieve anything other than "lock and release", you'll need a Sync I/O for PT to be slave and/or something like a Lynx synchronizer for the tape machine to be slave.

If it were me, I wouldn't be slaving ProTools to the 2"; really better to slave the 2".

best,

Agreed, I'd rather the tape machine servo than to have PT vary its SR to stay locked.

Although I've done many live recordings/broadcasts where PT was resolved to video and it's been fine. In fact, I just uploaded one of those mixes to my website this afternoon, an LCD Soundsystem track I mixed!!

I've got a 3 module Lynx system with KCU and a cable for a Otari MTR70 that should work. I used to slave it to my Sync I/O all the time. Let me know if you're interested.

Thanks for all your replies. Ive been looking at the Emagic Unitor 8 mk2 which apparently can send and receive LTC.

Im going to use notes taken from the links and try them with what ive got and will let you know if I have any success.

write time code to channel 24 of the machine, then use a sync I/O to have pro tools lock to it's code.
