Unhappy Pro tools 10 CPU errors

I am thinking about going back to using pro tools 9.0.6. I installed pro tools 10, and keep getting CPU errors which freezes the session which is a real pain. I record on location, and can't afford to have tracking problems. My Mac Pro (10.7.3) has 8 processors, and 12GB of Ram, I have never had any problems before with PT 7, 8, or 9. And in any case, this problem occurs when I have as little as one waves plugin running on a couple of tracks!! I'm not talking about a massive session here!!...

Has anyone had the same issue resulting in admitting defeat, and going back to PT 9. The cross grade cost me a lot of money, not happy. (which is a first for me, have always had complete confidence recording using Pro tools for the last 6 years)

Have you trashed reference, repaired permissions, made sure all your plug-ins are up to date, and the other stuff mentioned in the troubleshooting sticky?

I only ask because PT10 has been as solid as 9 which was just as solid as 8. At least for me. The 10.1.2 update did cause some issues at first but once I deleted permissions and repaired disc permissions all has been well.

thanks for your reply, I presume from your PT version that you run HD? In my case I am not, whether that makes any difference in this case, I don't know. In answer to your question, I have done all of the above, in fact, I completely unistalled everything, and reinstalled. All plugins are the most recent versions. I run a very tidy computer, always take great care in doing so. Admittedly, I have had hours of working where all is well, but then the problem occurs from time to time. Its reliability that I need, and I don't feel confident with PT 10. Any issues with downgrading to PT 9 that you know of,,

now you mention it, I have just noticed that the 10.1.2 update is for all PT users, so I will install and see if that works. thanks

Have you had any success? Fwiw I'm not running HD. Just plain ole pt10. In fact I jumped from 10.0.0 to 10.1.2. Never even tried 10.0.1.

Also afaik all the software is the same on all systems. Some features are hardware/license dependent, but overall it's the same. So while some parts of the software will depend on hardware, most issues are likely to be there on all systems. At least in my mind.

Please if you want people to help, post more information.

Is your Mac a Harpertown 8-Core Mac? (2.8 gHz?)

Are you running an HD Native card? An HDX Card?

I use a mac pro, 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, early 2008 model. 12GB Ram. Hardware interface is a 003 rack (BLA Signature mod)It seems that I was checking the help bar, and updates available option in pro tools, and it was telling me that my software was up to date when it wasn't. I only found out about the 10.1.2 update after I posted the question above, which Avid customer support told me is the only qualified version compatible with Lion 10.7.3. and that it should address any issues I had running PT 10 on Lion. Once I installed the update, things seemed to be ok. But then, as I have posted on another thread, the Avid Core Audio Manager started running haywire with my other apps i.e. iTunes, Spotify quick time etc etc... Not syncing, and crashing applications and stuff..So Pro Tools 10 seemed to work well, but my 003 was rendered useless with any other application. I have now changed back down to PT 9.0.6, and everything is nice and stable. I will await a 003 driver update which will hopefully address this issue before thinking about using PT 10 again. At least I have bought it, so have the option to change once I feel confident.
