Default Re: PT 12 perpetual license

If you stay with PT11 as you have now, it DOES NOT stop working.

If you pay $199 and upgrade to PT12, it DOES NOT stop working.

It is confusing to us all.

And no version will "revert" back if you jump off the subscription or support plan.

Default Re: How do I update PT11 to a PT12 perpetual license?

Really confuse
I can't find a streight answer
I own PT 11 allready
If I pay $199 for un upgrade to PT 12 it Last one year
After that year if I dont renew, will I be available contin๚e using PT 12 at that
Point
Second if I Buy
Perpetual license how much cost ?_________

After a year of perpetual license if I want continue gettings updates do I have to pay .$199 again for another year,
So Is there an advantage buy perpetual license, If I have to pay 199 every year
We never had to live this unconfortable situation
Nobody likes this and nobody seems really understand
Is very stupid situation

It really isn't clear at all. This is another amazing mess of a rollout. The linked page reads like a Monty Python skit.

Reality: PT11 is still buggy, unlikely to ever be fixed. So, we are asked to upgrade to 12 and a service plan so 12 can be fixed - which Avid are under no obligation to do.

This is a dramatic shift in the relationship between developers and customers.

Reality: the new *features* are a joke - any customers actually want to use Avid Marketplace? Any customers in need of a way to collaborate via the internet? Both of these are solutions without a problem.

Reality: the new licensing scheme and rollout have been mishandled and customers are not happy. Worse, Avid could care less.

I did see one great suggestion from a customer who is willing to pay for a subscription providing ongoing development (primarily bug fixes, stability and compatibility updates) for all versions of ProTools, from 10 on up.

Reality: it will never happen.

Uggggh……H

Default Re: How do I update PT11 to a PT12 perpetual license?

Jeffro, thanks for the link. But I have a question:

Q. What happens if I allow my Pro Tools subscription to lapse?
A. You will no longer be able to use Pro Tools after your subscription lapses. If your subscription has lapsed and you wish to continue using Pro Tools, simply start a new monthly or annual subscription.

Does this mean I can no longer use the version that I was using with the subscription and I will revert back to my perpetual license?

Q. Will I still get bug fix updates if I don't get an upgrade and support plan?
A. Yes. Maintenance updates are not tied to an Upgrade and Support Plan and will still be provided at no cost.

How long will maintenance updates be provided for PT12? If I was on PT12 and bought a subscription to use PT13 and after a few months I decided to go back to PT12 but several maintenance updates had been provided to PT12 while I was on a subscription to PT13, what version do I get when the subscription expires.

Sorry to make this difficult but I'd like to better understand my options.

Correct.

Subscribing provides use of that version during your subscription. If you own a perpetual license, you can also use the PT version(s) supported by that during/after your subscription.

There isn't a published end date for v12 bug fixing, but we should provide updates for a reasonable period beyond 12.0 (not tied to the Upgrade Plan).

No problem. This should be more clear as we start releasing feature upgrades.

And this can be tricky: If I was on PT12 and bought a subscription to use PT13 and after a few months I decided to go back to PT12 but several maintenance updates had been provided to PT12 while I was on a subscription to PT13, what version do I get when the subscription expires?

I would hope the latest maintenance release.

Flautista,

This is my understanding.

If you upgrade your existing PT11 to a PT12 perpetual license for $199, then you can use PT12 in "perpetuity". I.e., you don't have to pay Avid anymore to continue using PT12. And, you will be eligible to receive PT12 updates/fixes, for no additional cost.

If you do not pay an additional $199 before a year expires from your PT11 to "PT12 perpetual" upgrade date, then, when you are ready to move beyond your "PT12 Perpetual", to PT14, for example, you have 2 options: 1. pay the "PT14 Perpetual" price, 2. Subscribe (monthly/yearly)

Furthermore, the $199 upgrade price to PT12 Perpetual expires on 12/31/15.

Disclaimer: I have not upgraded beyond PT9 Vanilla Perpetual. I have zero 1st hand experience with this. This is my understanding from reading P-T-E.com, avid.com, & here.

In my opinion, wait until something in 12 comes out that you need, or wait until this November. Whichever comes sooner. But, if you plan to move forward, get it done before 2016.
Si no le entendes, lo puedo intentar en castellano.
