Default advice needed: G5 dual 2 gig or dual 2.7

I found a dual 2 gig in ny for a good price (a grand) with pci x slots for my HD 2 accel. I can buy this and pimp it out with more ram, etc... (it has 1 gig/160 gigs now) or should I hold out and try to find a dual 2.7 liquid cooler? Will it make much difference? I am doing film post with tons of tracks, but maybe one virtual instrument or sampler at a time. My G4 1.25 DP is getting slow under 7.2

thanks,

One difference between the two machines is that you can't put the 2.7 liquid cool on its side... you can with the 2.0... I don't think the .7 buys you that much more power for the buck... and liquid cool machines have not been tested over the long haul as to repairs...

thanks,
I recommend the upgrade.. You will love the quieter machine and I have had a G5 2.5, the first version from a couple of years ago..no problems.. I have friends that have them racked sideways with no issues.. You might go to the Apple forum and see if anyone has them racked that way. Hope this helps you...I am in LA working and will ask around here for you and if I get an answer, I will email you or post..G

thanks for the advice. The noise isn't an issue for me, as the cpu goes in the "machine closet", so I still am not sure what to do. My only question really, is about performance with PT on the dual 2 gig or a faster machine. I mean, jeez, protools 2.5 ran fine on my 7100/80, with 16 megs of ram. you'd think....
sorry.

It is true... the Apple owners manual says that liquid cooled models should not be placed on their sides b/c the cooling system won't work properly... I never risked it... I hope those 5 macs stay healthy...

Get a Dual 2.0 or 2.5. Don't take a chance with the 2.3 or 2.7.

Compatibility Alert — Power Mac G5 2.3/2.7GHz Models
Digidesign has identified an intermittent problem with Pro Tools|HD and the following Power Mac G5 2.3GHz and 2.7GHz models (introduced April 27, 2005). At times in a small number of these systems, not all of the cards in a Pro Tools|HD or Pro Tools|HD Accel system are seen by the Mac in Apple System Profiler or DigiTest. During launch, Pro Tools shows "DAE error -1123" or "Flex Cable Error".

This is because the configuration is seen as an extra TDM flex cable attached to the last recognized card, but not connected to the subsequent card. This problem can usually be resolved by restarting the computer. In rare occasions, multiple restarts may be required. If restarting fails to solve the issue described, please contact Digidesign Technical Support for additional troubleshooting and diagnosis.
• Power Mac G5 Dual 2.3 GHz - model M9748
• Power Mac G5 Dual 2.7 GHz - model M9749

I run a dual2.0 model with HD2Accel.
It is very reliable when running up to 96 tracks off of multiple firewire drives and video off of the internal ATA through pci-card (FuseX).
