Default Editing MIDI notes is sometimes not possible

In this session I have an instrument track running VSL Vienna Synchron Player. Some notes I can edit (move note values, change durations, change velocities) and some - on the same track) I cannot.
There appear to sometimes be two identical notes at once and sometimes you can move one of them (revealing the one beneath) and sometimes not.
You can't even grab some of the notes. They're just there.
If I move to Block view I can delete a section and that deletes the note underneath. But this is only half a solution.

If I copy and paste the MIDI notes into an empty MIDI track, and the mix automation into an empty audio track, then clear the instrument track and paste the notes and the Automation back in, I can edit the notes freely again.

What happens if you, on the original MIDI track, select all, then Event menu & select "Remove Duplicate Notes" . . ?
