Proper Way To Move or Copy Entire Session
Hey all,
I smack dead in the middle of doing some troubleshooting which includes changing my audio drive. I want to take this troublesome session and run it off a different drive. In the past I would had just copied the folder and all its contents to the other drive. It seems like I saw a video or read something once that this is a no no. The proper way maybe is to use export or something. I don't recall what I saw and now I can't find it. Thanks, Doug D. |

Re: Proper Way To Move or Copy Entire Session
I believe you should use File > Save Session Copy As...
It's been a while since I've used that but I think it gives you a dialog box to decide exactly what files etc you do want to copy and where you want it saved. Should all be in the manual? |

Re: Proper Way To Move or Copy Entire Session
You can just copy the session folder over to the new drive and open it from there.
Like the Jenre posted, if you use Session Save As, you will have the option to choose what to save and where. Both should work. |

Re: Proper Way To Move or Copy Entire Session
Found it!
http://therecordingrevolution.com/20...ession-backup/ He explains it in detail here and why you should use this method over just manually copying the session folder. I think in Pro Tools 11, the name has changed a bit... probably what Jenre said... Save Session Copy As. I'm not at my PT computer right now, so I can't check. Anyway, this is what I was looking for. Thanks, Doug D. |

Re: Proper Way To Move or Copy Entire Session
"Save copy in" is what you are looking for. That saves an entire session anywhere you want it to be along with all files and whats on your screen.

Re: Proper Way To Move or Copy Entire Session
If you are good with session management and all your media files are in your session folder, then copying via the finder or explorer is just fine. What you have to be aware of though is that if you go to open the copy while the original is still in the same location, then all file references will still be pointing to the original location rather than the copy. The fix for this is to either move or rename the original session folder after it has been copied and all will be well.

Yes, this will allow you to keep all files together if they are scattered across different drives.

As long as you remember to check the box to copy audio files
