Default How to open a PT9 session in PT10?

I googled this and all I found was "it can't be done". The manual says PT9 sessions should simply open, but they do not. It seems inconceivable that this isn't possible. Totally.

Anyone know how to do it?

Help! Thanks!

ProTools 10 should be able to open a ProTools 9 file no problem. What exactly happens when you try? Can you make sessions in 10? You can also create a new session and use import session data to pull the tracks in.

I get a message that says "The document could not be opened because it was created in an older version of Pro Tools."

Just created a new session, tried to import session data, got the exact same message. Maybe it's older than PT9?

Thanks!

Does it have a .ptf extension? If not add it.

Yes, I think the extension is .ptf. I tried changing the extension to .ptx, but got the same response.

Then the session is corrupt.

All versions have opened without issue in 10

If there’s a session backup folder, try opening one of those. If not, create a new sessions and import the data from the old session.

Try making a new session in 10 and use Import Session Data on the 9 session, is another option to try

I saw somewhere that someone else had a similar problem, discovered that they were trying to open a file that had 4 KB of data. They found a session file (.ptf) that was a more reasonable size and it opened. So I went looking, discovered that the files that looked like this: "_NAMEOFSONG 1.1.ptf" only had 4 KB, the one that said "NAMEOFSONG 1.1.ptf" had 2.1 MB of data. THAT one opened. Weird thing is that the smaller, un-openable file was the most recent date and time. The one that would open was dated almost 2 weeks earlier. So, I'm able to open a mix file, but not sure it's the most recent!

Another strange thing I just noticed - all of the "_NAMEOFSONG 1.1.ptf" files are from the exact same date and the exact same time. Weird.

Thanks!
