AVB on the cards themselves would be interesting, but Dante would be better - the market has spoken on that one.

let's face it. hdx dsp development never took off. it's now dead.

this price drop tells all.

i wouldn't be surprised to see some kind of a new hd native card soon that gives us more actual hd native processing power (intel chips?) on a pcie card or thunderbolt box - enabling users to run their native plug-ins with more dedicated horsepower.

i'm not buying anything until after aes or even namm.

The obvious issue with the HDX system is that no new Macs come with PCI slots anymore. I think that alone makes it non viable as a future platform.

We have kept our PT10 HD system alive in our main tracking room, we've been thinking about HDX, but we would have to stick with our old Mac Pro, which presents other issues (it's not sufficient for video editing for one)

Overall the new announcements seem sensible. I do think Avid are going to have to keep delivering on new features of they want to maintain such premium pricing. The only thing keeping them going right now is the user base in the high end, who are locked in to the platform for the foreseeable future.

The new features look alright, steps in the right direction

Why would it be dead? The new S6L live console just launched and frankly there are tons of AAX DSP plugins out there. There are a few points where we'd need more versatility like reverbs for example.
On huge scoring sessions I wouldn't give up our HDX rigs no matter how powerful native is. For mixing only, that's another story.

I see this as a step in the right direction. Also 12.6 offers some news that actually matter to customers. Has someone been listening at AVID?

Finally! PTHD available for purchase as software-only. So many young people I know don't understand advanced automation. This will help. Thanks Avid.
