HD setup help needed!

We have a Mac G5 and 192 with 16 ins, 8 outs. Works fine.

Now we just added a 2nd analog output card, and after that Pro Tools won't launch. We get this error:

Unable to find Audio Interface attached to the first HD card. Please check power and DigiLink cables. Click OK to rescan.

Also, in the Mac is one HD Core card, and two HD Process cards. One of the process cards is not plugged into anything. Should it be?

And what needs to happen to get Pro Tools to launch and recognize our 16 outputs?

Did you do what it said? Did you confirm the DigiLink cable was securely connected to the core card and the 192-I/O?

Yes. Since the last post I came to the understanding (I think) that one slot in the 192 HAS to be used by the digital IO card. So we put that back in.

The end goal is to be able to route audio to and from some analog outboard gear.

SO, we have 16 analog ins, 8 analog outs, and the digital IO card. Also, a ProControl board. So far we have not been able to get audio to hit any of the outboard gear no matter what we try.

The 192 can only do 16/8 or 8/16. It can't do a 16/16.
You may want to look at Lynx or Apogee - they have a 16 I/O box.

So, with all this gear and "high end" Pro Tools system, we can't send to outboard gear?

You can, but you have to change your IO setup to do it, and only 16-channels at a time.

There are a variety of ways.. Open that PT manual, and look for "hardware inserts" which is the most efficient way to do it. good luck, SB
