new ASUS system works! but no firewire...

Thought I'd let you good folks know that we took a plunge on the new Intel Q9550 core 2 quad with an ASUS P5KPL-C and was able to fully restore our old 7.4 Pro Tools System and config. All plugs load, Wavelab still runs and all seems well. However, we realised we have no firewire now as our old card was PCI and we only have a spare PCIe slot (we used the 3 pcix slots already and one of the PCIe for the video card).

Any tips on what Firewire to get? Firewire 800 maybe??

Hi,

When I built my Gigabyte MB system it didn't have a firewire port either. Just do a search on ebay for PCIe Firewire, and check out the chipset. I'm pretty sure mine was a Texas Instruments (TI) one. The card is tiny, about 3x1.5"! And has worked flawlessly. Just plugged it in and away you go, no drivers etc. It may have cost $30...

VIA 6307 and 6308 are very good chips. any cheap card that has this chips will be fine.

TI chips are also very good, but most built in expensive cards.

so I hear that Digi recommend the TI chipset, does that mean that others won't work at all or at least not work properly?
