I actually have no words. If Avid dare put out such a patronising and self serving comment piece as that to justify this screwing of the customer base I'm actually going to lose it.

It is stunning how out of touch with their customers this company are!
The arrogance of the whole thing is mind boggling.

A PR disaster.

Maybe if they are going to push support so hard, they can support their users by bringing back the Pro Control, Control 24, etc. My own beloved 003 (for which there is no current replacement) is slated for death sometime in 2016.

I can't stress this enough, just don't buy into the support plan.

When a company launches any product or plan and it fails to sell, they lower the price or drop it entirely. They can't force you to pay for it.
But, YOU can force them to change it, by NOT paying for it.

This is a desperate attempt to raise money, SO DON'T GIVE IT TO THEM.
Make Avid realize this is the wrong direction to go for generating revenue.

Off-topic I know but...... there is no market share for a 004 as well as too many third parties producing great interfaces in this range

And besides think of all the R and D money they can save by not having to release a new product,

If you know of an integrated control surface and surround capable audio interface, please let me know. I haven't been looking because my 003 is great, but it would be nice to know what could replace it if the need ever arose.

Surround capable yeah but not w/o HD software -

You said 003 and I read 003r sorry didn't dawn on me about the surface - but they won't replace it anyway- it would step in the artist series market

003 still only has stereo monitor control though right? In that sense, something like a MOTU Ultralite and an Artist Mix fit the same bill.

Yeah, but I'd much rather use my dedicated surround controller.

Sorry for steering things off topic. Is there anything more to say though? It's Avid's turn at this point.
