Default How to use Avid 8x8 i/o without running PT?

Apple has their Coreaudio driver. What do we have?
Is there a driver available that will make my computer recognize my 8x8 i/o and/or core card as an audio device so I can send audio from my computer to my monitors w/o extra cabling?

I just want to be able to play music, listen to audio clips etc through my monitors, but my Win7 PC shows no audio devices. I'm no computer pro, but I'm pretty sure that means I would need a driver for the 8x8.

Anyone know of a driver that will allow us to use our Avid i/o outside of PT?

thanks,
Steve

An ASIO driver is what you are looking for. ASIO4ALL is a universal driver that may work. Personally, I would steer clear of this as I hate dealing with changing audio engines and such. Does the computer have onboard sound? Mine has an optical SPDIF output and I feed that to a Presonus Central Station so I can easily switch back and forth between several sources and 2 sets of speakers(with or without the sub). I know it cost more, but the versatility is well worth it(to me anyway)

I have a central station too. :) My recording computer is in another room and not sure if I could run that long of an optical cable. I'll have to check my computer because I'm not even sure if the mobo has optical out for it's built in sound card. It was a pretty high end build...about 5 years ago...so it's ancient. :)
