Advantages\Disadvantages to 3rd party audio devices
Several people at Gearslutz were saying that there were some features that aren't available if I use a 3rd party audio device. I've only used 002r and PT HD with Pro Tools.
First I'd like to ask if what they said on Gearslutz is true. Secondly are there any disadvantages vs advantages to using 3rd party hardware with PT 10? |

Re: Advantages\Disadvantages to 3rd party audio devices
I haven't heard that there are features missing.
But the advantage is choice. There are so many products out there, you can pick the one with the features you need. The potential disadvantage is that now you have two companies to deal with should experience problems. At least with Avid hardware, you can go to one place/source for troubleshooting. I hope that helps |

Re: Advantages\Disadvantages to 3rd party audio devices
The only missing feature I am aware of is the LLM that 002/003 owners get. Having said that, on one of my 2 system, it doesn't work(good thing I don't NEED it). On the flip side, Avid has announced that PT11 will not support a whole lot of present Avid/Digidesign hardware, so that may be a really good reason to go 3rd party as there's a much better chance the manufacturer will offer a new driver to maintain compatibility with Pro Tools

You should check if ADC and low latency monitoring works with whatever interface you decide to get. I believe I've read something about that around here, but I couldn't find it.

Re: Advantages\Disadvantages to 3rd party audio devices
Oh man that worries me. I'm buying it used and I cant return it if it doesn't work with my setup. People here have recommended the Focusrite Pro40 and the Motu MK2 or MK3 series. Hopefully I wont have any issues with one of them
