Default The new Mac Pro

I'm looking to upgrade my computer.. So the new 3.2GHz Quad-Core or the 12 Core 2.4GHz .. My question is does PT really use all 12 cores, if not, wouldn't PT run as good or better on the Quad, now at 3.2GHz?

PT should use all cores. So 12 would be better than 4. On the other hand.
I have an I7 quad core 2.6 ghz and for me that works fine with 30 tracks at 96 khz 32 bit.

If you are going to work with big sessions 50 - 100+ tracks with lots of VI's i would select the 12 cores mac pro.

Absolutely not the quad.
If going for the single CPU model, update the CPU to the 3.33Ghz hexacore instead. Or pick the 12 core.

^ This.

The 6-core 3.33 is still the best bang for buck, overall.

Thanks for the tip.
However, I have just added some additional RAm to my Mac Pro 1.1 (2006 2007).

The 12 core model seems to be working very well with pt 10.1.3 and lion 10.7.3. We just upgraded from a Mac pro 1.1. Huge difference.

Is this the brand new 12 core that just came out the other day? I'm also still on a Mac Pro 1,1 - I'd love to know your thoughts on how much more processing power you're really getting out of it. I think we'll jump on this soon.

Thanks Brandon!

Just curious, why are you still on 10.1.3? 10.2 has solved quite a few important issues.

I just picked up a 12 core 2.4 hoping it would demolish my 8 core 2.8 from over 4 years ago. I got exactly the same performance as my old so needless to say - 12 core is back w apple.
