Default (-9073) error message

Just bought 003 rack with pro tools le8 and an imac. I really know nothing about either but now pro tools won't even let me listen to more than 5 seconds of a song without saying dae cannot get to the drives fast enough. I only have like 4 songs recorded to my desktop with not that many tracks. Also haven't even added any fx yet. I've messed with the buffer size and no help. Should i get an external hard drive? here are my imac specs:
Hardware Overview:

Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac8,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
Boot ROM Version: IM81.00C1.B00
SMC Version (system): 1.29f1

Absolutely - Pro Tools practically requires a secondary drive. We don't specifically endorse any particular drive, but others on the DUC have had great success with Glyph and OWC Mercury drives.

That isn't the reason it is doing what it is doing, with those specs you should be able to run and record in Pro Tools to your internal HDD no problem, before I got my external drive I did it all the time, never had a problem.

So what would it be? Ive heard that it shouldn't be giving me errors being that it's still new and i only have like 4 songs on my desktop.

You may have been able to, but we know for a fact that it's unlikely to work on most systems.

The error is pretty clear - it's a drive read/write issue and getting a secondary drive is the way to go.

Could you send me a link of a couple of good hard drives to order for my imac?

I bought a glyph GT050q and it's still quitting on me. What do i do? I've tired almost everything!!!!!!! Maybe i don't have it plugged in right? Once in a great while it will let me record for awhile with no problems but mostly gives me the (-9073) error.

Glyph(maybe the best) or OWC(the best value).

The fact that you say you are new to this jtapp, and that you were originally trying to record 4-5 songs on your desktop....leads me to wonder if you have followed the troubleshooting process and setup properly?

Go to this link and follow all the steps...all of them.

http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=54888

Then if you are still having problems you can file a support ticket.

I am no PT expert, I only have about 12 years......but as with all systems you cannot just plug in and go. You have to tweak the computer and make settings on the DAW software to optimize performance.

Go check it out if you haven't already....turn off Spotlight, anti-virus, Bluetooth, Airport etc etc and see if that helps.

Ive adjusted my imac to all of those and it's still giving me the error. Tried to record drums the other day and it wouldn't even let me record or listen to my song for more than 10 seconds.
