Default Watch DVD in surround via D-Command

Hey everyone -

We want to set up a dvd or blu-ray player in the audio room so clients can watch movies in surround. We have a 5.1 set-up in the room using the D-Command as the control surface. Does anyone have any suggestions about the best way to do this? The thoughts I had were:

1 - Find a dvd player with separate rca analog outputs, convert to XLR and plug into the 'surround input' section of the Xmon (though this doesn't seem to be very efficient)

2 - Take the optical output of the dvd or blu-ray player and plug into the optical input of the 192 (would that be a viable option)?

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Both options are 'possible' but the second one requires to have Pro Tools open with an Aux for example as an input channel to listen to the audio of your DVD player where as the first option, using the surround inputs on your XMon allows you to listen without having an Aux set up or even Pro Tools open for that matter.

The surround input will act like your stereo inputs ... in surround.

Of course you need to bring an analog signal into them. If your player doesn't have analog outputs I would suggest looking at consumer hifi pre amps that allow for optical inputs and analog outputs. Those are 'affordable'.

You should go with analog 5.1 outs into the Xmon. If you go BluRay, there is no plugin available for PT that will decode DTS-MA, DD Plus or TruHD. You have to find a player that will decode internally and spit it out the analog outs.

I have a Samsung BD1400 and it's great.

IHTH.
