Whatever you decide, you might want to wait until January, because word is there's going to be more speed bumps/ price drops on the G5s.

I'm suffering with a single 1ghz g4 right now. From what I hear the G5 is extremely powerfull, however after suffering with a single processor, I would take the duel G4 over a single G5. If you can afford a duel G5 then go for that. from my limited experience with PT and macs, you get a lot more efficiency with duel box than a single, OSX is a hog on its own. It would be nice to have a processor designated to the os and other apps and another for PT.

Dual G5 is budget-wise not an option,
because when going the G5 road
i have to upgrade my 001 to a 002r also...
I can buy a dual 1,25 G4 for 2700 euros
or buy a single 1,6 G5 for 2200 + 800 for the 002r upgrade = 3000
budget is 3000 maximum...

to tell you the truth.........if you're going to be using PTLE I would get a DP G4 and load it up with extras. If you're planning on possibly using other "audio" applications like logic/DP etc...then Dual G5 it or wait just a bit longer for a faster DP G5. LE just restricts the G5 too much to make having a G5 worth while.........for now.......crossing fingers. Right now is a difficult time to be a LE user and on the market for a new Mac, if you can, wait another 6 months to see how LE improves with the new G5's (if it does at all).

I own a G5 1.6 and 002 rack, and i say its working quite awesome for me so far. i got the 1.6 for the same reason as you, money! i would not get the G4 cause its old school IMO. if you have the time, i guess wait for a few more months, but at the same time if you were to wait for things to go down in price it'll never end....they always come up with newer products and the waiting will never end.

Apple normally brings out two product updates a year, one in January and one in Juli/August.

if youre happy with your system now, I´d say wait a little longer until most issues are solved.

restraint your need to consume and be wise.

A high end system also needs high end equipment to exploite it.

It won´t stop with just a G5 as you said there´s a 002 upgrade behind it, ilok probably, lots of RAM, etc. ponder on what you need a little longer, until the end of January there´s still time left.

best
