Error 6085 Audio device buffer underflowed

Hi DUC,

Starting yet another 6085 thread after googling the DUC & searching the knowledge base in search of a solution.

I keep getting error 6085 every few minutes or seconds when recording even after following the suggested buffer settings, system optimizations, shutting down non-mandatory services & start-up programs & disconnecting not in use external drives.

Installed programs:

Only PT (& windows) is running when I try to record with PT.

What have I overlooked? The communities assistance greatly appreciated.

I got the same error for the first time after upgrading to a solid state drive, and
a fresh install of windows 7. Never had the problem on my 5200 rpm bloatware drive.

I love that code so much... anyway. What interface are you using ? If it is firewire neither of yours is compatable.

First thing I would try is removing Norton. I also am suspicious about the firewire port being non-compatible. Is RAID disabled in BIOS(should be)? Have you done the system tweaks(you need to)?

Unless I missed it, you didn't say what your audio hardware is. I'm going to assume it's a firewire device based on that error message. I'm suspicious of the Avlab FW controller. Never heard of that chipset before.

Since you're running a Z400, download the HP Performance Advisor (http://h20331.www2.hp.com/hpsub/cache/285683-0-0-225-121.html?jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN)

Under the Your Software section, you should see an entry for Avid. Click on the Avid button and in the pop up, click on the Pro Tools button. There's a dashboard that'll let you know if the BIOS is configured correctly. If not, you'll see the Apply Recommendations button. Click on that to apply the correct settings for Pro Tools. Do a complete shutdown/power up, not a warm restart to make sure things take.

Also, make sure you're running the 14.2.0.5 driver for the Broadcom NIC. If you've got the wrong driver version, you can download it from the HP support page for the Z400.

Finally, try the Windows OHCI Legacy driver for the firewire card.

I think installing sp1 fixed the underflow error issue. The most use full post I have found in the DUC is by user BradLyons, and it regards optimizing windows for PTSLE. One of the tweaks highlighted in that post goes as follows;

"* Click on Windows Update on the left-hand pane > Change Settings > Never Check for Updates... > OK > close the update window.

I realized that between installing windows and doing my optimizations I never let windows update. Day one stuff.
In addition My computer lacks fire wire. My mbox 2 is of course usb.
