Default Re: ADAT digital input on DIGI002 rack

Yes everything is set correctly on the RME.

As far as PT setup goes... sessions are generally at 44.1. I ran one 48 session and it was even worse as far as timing errors, but that was with the old, longer optical cables.

I've got it set to Optical=ADAT, RCA=SPDIF. Buffer is 256 most of the time w/CPU set to 99%.

I had to suddenly jump ship from my G4/001 setup to this Dual 1.8 G5/002 setup and am frustrated by this development. I remember this happening with the 001 two or three times in the last four years, but now it happens constantly if I'm clocked to optical/ADAT.

Speaking of my computer setup: Dual 1.8 G5, 3gb RAM & 10.3.8 running PTLE 6.4 cs9

I appreciate you guys taking an interest.

Tony

I'm in the same boat unfortunately. I'm using a Digi-002R with a Mini-me connected to the S/PDIF and a Frontier Audio Tango 24 connected to the ADAT in/outs. Everything is clocked to the RCA S/PDIF input from the Mini-me. Last night some digital clicking started and now it's out of control on any channel set to record via the ADAT input. The Tango 24 indicates it's getting a stable clock signal over it's ADAT in from the Digi-002R; and I did a complete checkout on it tonight and it seems fine. The problem seems to be with the ADAT input to the 002R. I might try replacing cables tomorrow but I don't hold out much hope that will be an acceptable fix. Could this be the dreaded power harness issue?

Replacing both cables fixed the problem for now, though I'm a bit nervous. The cables worked fine in a loopback test on the Tango 24. Are they really that sensitive? What causes an optical cable to go bad?

Showing my ignorance here... what is "RME"??

I'm having similar problems with SM Proaudio unit with ADAT in to DIGI 002 R. Works great at 48 Khz... but will not sync at 44.1

RME = a brand/manufacturer of audio products (in the case of this thread, a popular a/d converter)

Interesting. All of my problems were during recording at 44.1 kHz. I'll have to try switching sample rates if it occurs again.

Get the highest quality cable you can get for the OPTICAL and S/PDIF connections. Dont scrimp and get the cheapos or you'll have issues.

What exactly constitutes a high quality optical cable? I had one with the gold end connectors but they're heavy and don't seat in the optical ports correctly.
