Default bouncing from 48 khz to 44.1

I have mixed a project and now need to make down mix and burn a cd, the pt project is at 48 khz, what workflow do you suggest to go to 44.100? normally I use t create a new track and record on it the downmix, but in this case how do I make sample rate conversion?

Once you've recorded to disc, you can Export Clips As Files (Command-Shift-K) and in this dialog box you tell PT which settings you want for SRC.

So there are 2 steps, anyway is better to record on tracks before and after to bounce or to go directly on bounce to disk?

Some people prefer the Bounce to Disk workflow, others such as myself and you, it seems, prefer the Record to Disk using an internal buss. If you're using RTD, there's no way to do that and have it be at a different SR, so you have to do the two step method I described.

If however, you use the BTD method, then you can make those settings in the Bounce dialog and it becomes one step. PT11 will allow you to bounce both a high res and mp3 file at the same time BTW.

BUT, you cannot SRC and dither to 16 bit in a BTD. This is a good argument for using "Export Clips..." which does allow correct dithering in the export. Assuming the OP needs to create a 44.1k/16bit file from a 48k24bit (or greater) work session, then convert on BTD will not work.

best,
rich

With a Dither plug on the master and convert after bounce selected, you're doing it in one step, no?

Nope - the dither has to happen AFTER the SRC; in your scenario the dither would be before the SRC.

Since there seems to be such a discrepancy for how to BTD with dither.
Can someone explain from start to finnish how this is actually done.
I always BTD, I never print a mix in PT and my settings are usually 32/96.
If it matters I always have external inserts on my master and almost every bus.

So my usual work flow is actually a better choice? Hmmmmm. I always bounce at the session sample rate and bit depth. Then the 2mix gets opened in Wavelab, trimmed, dithered(if going to 16 bit) and saved to the desired end result(16 bit/44.1K for CD or mp3 format). For those that are dithering and doing SRC in Pro Tools, Wavelab does a great job, and does it fast. Take a look at the "essentials" version that's under $100.

RTD, then Export Clips as Files is what I've been doing for 15 years. Works for me!
