Default Creating a new session

Please help. I've just installed ProTools 6.9 LE on a PowerBook G4. I have an external hard drive solely for audio recording. I try to create a new session, and direct the software to use my external drive for the creation location, but always get this message:

"Session must be on an audio record volume."

I can go no further. How do I resolve this problem?

Thanks for any help.

I'm using a Maxtor 7200 RPM drive, USB 2.0. I can read and write to the drive. Thanks for any help. Oh, I have 1 GB of RAM in the PowerBook. Do I need Firewire instead of USB?

Yes.... I would suggest a good Glygh Firewire HD, (very dependable for long sessions).Plus, (I believe it's suggested to use FW HD's in the PT Manual) Then if you are having problems... with "volume errors" , not being recognized... then get the 6.9.2 update. There's info all over the DUC on how to fix that certain error, go to you top menu & (under your Workspace menu) and change the (V) to (R) on both your G4 and your external drive.......worked for me. DUC Forum "rocks" Helps me out! Good luck.

Thanks a bunch for the help. Maybe I should get a FW drive... it would be faster. Just more money to spend, I suppose. (I just bought the Maxtor.) Anyway, I just bought an HP Pavilion laptop... then decided the Powerbook would be better, so bought one of those. I'd just like all this stuff to work together for a change. I can't help wonder why there are so many "issues" with different things. Guess it's the learning curve. Thanks again.
