PT 2020.5 with always up-to-date Win10 here. Works great.

I did the update. No issues here. In all of the years I’ve been using Macs for music, I’ve never had to do a clean install. Maybe I’ve been lucky but it’s never been a problem for me. I do always just use my studio computer for music and keep clear of installing non-music apps and programs which I think helps as well.

Since you are on a Mac. Best practice is to rename your current version (I just add the actual version number to the name). Then run the new version installer. I/O setups/prefs etc. remain but you have the ability to step back to previous versions if something is amiss.

Spot on. I do it every time I install a new version. Easily the safest way to try out a new update

The only thing that changes when you switch back and forth amongst PT versions is the workspace file. You'll get a warning but dismiss it as PT will take care of things.

I have those backed up as well (the installer on particular versions warns you to do so) to a workspace folder as I have had to revert back at times.

Good that you have the workspace folder backed up as well but I find it's not necessary as PT will rewrite the file as necessary. I don't see the difference in using PT between using the original and the rewritten file. Not saying there isn't one but that I just don't see what any differences are supposed to be.

Finally I have installed it and ran a mix. Everything smooth and very stable.

After I finished the commission I was working on I updated to 2020.12. The first startup from cold PT crashed but after that there was and have been no problems.

If you have a modified dark mode file save a copy of it off to a safe place. 2020.12 kept most of the edits except for a slight darkening in the track backgrounds from what was in my edited file. Put the old file back in and everything was okay gui-wise.

No dark mode here, I prefer the classic for the moment...

Thanks
