Default Can\'t Quantize anything correct.

I am a sequence based artist, I love the virtual instruments in pro tools but, I just don't understand the quantize feature.

I recommend you search out some tutorial DVD's or a good manual for this as its just too much info to put on this forum. Basically, quantize will take your midi performance and move the notes to the nearest fraction of a measure(quarter note, eighth note, 32nd note, etc) depending on how you set the quantize parameters.

if you are a sequenced base artist, quantizing should be the first thing you learn. It is essential to sequencing.

Simplest was to think about it is in 1 bar loop. Within the 1 bar you have a maximun number of beats per bar. 1/4 quantize puts 4 beats to each bar, 1/8 puts 8 beats to each bar, 16 is..you get the point. When you press the midi note it has to be placed somewhere within the bar. The smaller the quantize number, the less places you can put the midi note on. The higher the quantize number, the more notes you can place on the bar. Standard hip hop typically run at around 1/16. Again, this is basic quantizing, I haven't even added 3rd notes etc. Just play with it and you get a better understanding

Try setting original quantize to 1/16th notes and 80 - 90% strength for starters. I find this setting covers most situations and provides enough feel to maintain a decent groove.
