002 Tips and Tricks

Is there any way to select from the list of inserts from the 002? Rather can I assign specific inserts to specific channels w/out touching my keyboard or mouse, only using the 002? Follow up question's... how about assiging inputs and outputs? or sends? I've looked all over the documentation and haven't found any answers. Even a "nope it's not possible get a HD system if you want to do that," would curb my curiosity. Anything advice would be awesome!!

I know this doesn't answer your question but....I setup my 002 off to the left and found it so easy to do what you mention using the mouse, that I never even bothered with trying to use the 002 as you describe. I suspect that it is not possible (or not simple) due to the fact that the new 003 has tons more buttons on it for doing just what you described. I loved the faders on the 002, along with the transport controls, but never tried to use it in front of me as the main controller. Every time I sat in on a friend's setup (with the 002 front and center) I always felt it was in my way. Go figure! I hope someone has a better answer for you. Meanwhile, analyze your working methods and needs and maybe you will discover some other ways of improving efficiency or functionality.
