Default Sub Groups and latency

I am mixing a project and am running my drums through a pair of auxes to do some parallel compression. Am I adding latency when I do that? Do I need to compensate on the other tracks not being bussed through auxes.

I am also doing the same thing with with electric guitar tracks where we multi-miked two amps....

Thanks,
Terry

It depends on what type of compressor you're using. Different plugins cause different amounts of delay. Command+Click on the "Volume" reading under the fader in the mix window. You'll see 3 options; Volume, Peak, Delay. Adjust your other tracks of the same instrument accordingly so there's no phasing. If it's a large amount of delay, you might want to adjust the other instruments to match.

Thanks Ryan! Right now I have SoudToys Decapitator and Waves SSL Buss compressor on my "tweaked" subgroup and a little Waves V-EQ4 on the "clean". No phasing...

I would use the same plugins on each bus, and bypass the ones I don't need.

or I think you control click the data next to the meter on each track and eventually you will get to samples of latency, and then you can nudge ahead the exact amount of samples to make the post latency file line of perfectly as it was recorded, this of course if you are using an LE system, as in HD, with ADC turned on would fix the situation. Just make sure that you have enough samples of latency in your playback settings to allow for the total latency fix, 2k, 4k, 8k....

The other option of course would be to print the effects to a new audio file and then manually nudge to line of the audio so it blends instead of phases.
