can the 2408 work with the 001???
Can the 2408 be used as a front end to digi001 for 16 tracks of input? If so, how? I have a 2408 and I need to have protools, and I need to also have 16 inputs. Unfortunately I'll never ever be able to afford a full blown mix plus or anything like that, so the 001 is a very bright prospect!!!

No, Pro Tools won't work without a Digidesign interface/card. The good news is that you can get 16 inputs into the 001 if you use the lightpipe inputs on the card and a separate A/D converter with lightpipe output. Haven't tried it myself, but others report success, I believe.

Re: can the 2408 work with the 001???
I guess I need to clarify. I have a 2408, I want to keep that and use the 2408's adat outputs to run into the digi001's adat inputs and have 16 tracks of simultaneous input. So, I want to use them both at the same time. I'm wondering what it would take to make this happen. I realize I'll need a JLCooper box to get the clocks sync'd up, I don't really know too much about the 2408's ADAT outputs seeing as I've never used/never planned on using them. If this won't work, is there a box out there with lightpipe outputs that could be used as a 8 additional inputs to give me 16???
Thanks, Jay |

Oh, I see. Sorry, didn't read your first post very carefully.
I have no idea if you can use the 2408 as an analog-to-ADAT box. If not, Alesis makes one called the AI3, which goes for around $400. |

Re: can the 2408 work with the 001???
In theory, the 2408's ADAT output should work with the 001 optical input. I've brought in lightpipe from an ADAT with no problems.
Just make sure you set the 001 sync option to "optical" and it should sync with no clicks. However, I don't think you can use the S/PDIF input at the same time. Both S/PDIF and ADAT lightpipe contain imbedded clocking/sync codes, so external word clock SHOULDN'T be needed unless you're trying to sync two or more external boxes. There are possibly work-arounds for even that situation. Since there is no external word clock input on the 001, I'm not sure how using a third-party sync device such as the JL Cooper will help you. There are several "ADAT lightpipe" boxes that will convert line level to lightpipe, but I don't think you'll need them. Try the 2408 - it should work if you configure it for ADAT output and set the 001 to look at the optical source for clocking. ------------------ LW
