Default From iBook G3 to iMac G4?

I want more power, but I can't afford a G5 and I don't want a used G4 (too much noise).
So - I was thinking of getting an iMac G4 1GHz, instead of my iBook (see below). How much more performance can I expect? I use softsynts, such as SampleTank and Reason a lot, but otherwise mostly Digirack stuff.

Thanx

iBook G3 600Mhz 640Mb;
Mbox
PTLE 6.1.2
OSX 10.2.6
